The Entrepreneurs Network and Kingsley Napley are hosting a reception to explore what a future immigration system should look like.
We will be joined by Madeleine Sumption, Director of the Migration Observatory. She is a policy specialist focusing on the impacts of migration policies and the role of migrants in the labour market. Madeleine’s research interests include the design of immigration policies and their economic and social impacts, labour migration, and the interaction between the economics and politics of migration policies. Recent focus areas include government policies towards immigrant investors, the impacts of Brexit on the UK’s immigration system, and the implementation of the EU Settlement Scheme.
At The Entrepreneurs Network, we have been long-standing supporters of an open and inclusive immigration system which enables talented individuals to come to the UK and offer their skills to the economy. Our research shows the disproportionate role foreign-born founders play in launching the fastest-growing companies in Britain, and our advocacy for reforms to visa routes is one of our policy priorities.
This event is dedicated to exploring and reimagining the framework of immigration policies to better align with the dynamic needs of the 21st century. Specifically, we will discuss the following:
How the immigration system can attract and retain top international talent for them to innovate, launch their own businesses or grow startups;
How did the new salary thresholds affect Britain’s attractiveness for international talent;
How can the new government implement quick, easy fixes to make the existing immigration routes work for startups and research institutions?
