In line with the global boom, the UK space sector has nearly quadrupled since 2000 to £16.4 billion in income, employing over 45,000 people, with satellites underpinning £360 billion per year of wider economic activity.
This year, a UK spaceport will see the first ever commercial rocket launch from Europe. It will inspire future generations of space entrepreneurs, but space isn’t just headline announcements, with ever-increasing opportunities for applications: whether it’s the use of Synthetic Aperture Radar satellites to predict when bridges will collapse; the development and testing automated vehicle functionalities; the provision of insights to help food retailers and producers eliminate products causing deforestation; or the empowerment of the nations of Fiji, Vanuatu and the Solomon Islands in the use of satellite remote sensing capabilities in their efforts to build resilience to the devastating impacts of climate change.
This briefing paper and launch will consider how policy can catch up with ambitions.
This event is for MPs, Peers and space entrepreneurs. Email events@tenentrepreneurs.org to request a place.
